Your course does not have to be 100% online to deliver content via a course website. With many schools shifting towards 1:1 student to device ratio, teachers should be looking at a way to use these devices to deliver content to students.
Teachers, especially those who have been in the profession a long time, know what works in their classrooms and what doesn't. However, times are changing and students are comfortable using technology in their day to day activities. Our students are using technology from the time they wake in the mornings to the time they go to sleep. They are used to being engaged by technology and we can utilize technology to keep them engaged in our content.
Using a course website to deliver content can be daunting. Veteran teachers already have their presentation materials created; they have their lecture mapped out and can deliver it flawlessly. Why would anyone want to spend countless hours converting their materials and lectures into online content?

FOR THE STUDENTS!
100% of students are not going to love your subject 100% of the time. Some will struggle. Some will fail. Some will sleep half the time and ace all your assessments. For students to be successful, the content needs to be engaging and interesting, and the students needs to have a desire to learn. Through the use of a course website students can read, see, and hear the content as many times as they need to. If designed properly, a course website will contain a variety of media including text, images, audio, and video.
Students who miss a day of class have the content available to them at a moments notice. Students can see and hear you teaching them as many times as they need to grasp the concept. If content is available, students can spend more time thinking about the topics or working with the material, rather than sitting through a 45 minute lecture passively hearing the material. Ease of content delivery opens up your classroom to more activities.
In the real world, most students will have access to the internet and unlimited sources of information via a phone, tablet, computer, or other means. Memorization of facts will not be enough. Employers and colleges want to see that students can think about information, take what they know and apply it in some way. We must teach our students to take the content and use it.
